NJTIA’s Advocacy Day Brings the New Jersey Tourism Community Together to

Celebrate the GaTrenton, NJ – May 12, 2025 – The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA)
hosted its annual Advocacy Day on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the War Memorial in
Trenton, NJ. This annual event brings together professionals from across the tourism
sector—including trade associations, DMOs, CVBs, chambers, businesses, and
nonprofits to highlight the vital role tourism plays in New Jersey’s economy.

In addition to insightful discussions and presentations, NJTIA honored tourism
professionals and legislators for their outstanding advocacy efforts and contributions to
the industry. Attendees gained valuable insights into legislative updates and industry
trends while networking with colleagues and decision-makers who shape New Jersey’s
tourism landscape.

collaboration that drives our state’s tourism industry. From local businesses to statewide

expanding tourism, supporting jobs, and celebrating everything that makes the Garden
State a premier destination,” said Ben Rose, NJTIA President.


Tourism Economics Outlook from Adam Sacks, Tourism Economics
Adam Sacks of Tourism Economics shared the latest outlook and what it means for New
Jersey destination marketing in 2025 and beyond. He noted that visitor volume is forecast
to grow 2.2% in 2025 year-over-year (2.7 million) in 2025 to 126.4 million, and 3.0% in

2025, day visitors are forecast to rise 2.7%, as overnight visitors increase
1.5%. In 2026, World Cup events are anticipated to boost travel to the state, with
visitors projected to grow 3.0%. Visitor spending is forecast to increase 3.5% to $52.3
billion in 2025. Total state and local taxes generated from visitor supported activity are
projected to rise to $5.5 million in 2025.

2025 Senator Jim Whelan Memorial Award Winner:
Jim Kirkos, CEO of the Meadowlands Chamber and Meadowlands Live!
Jim Kirkos, CEO of the Meadowlands Chamber and Meadowlands Live! CVB, was
honored with the 2025 Senator Jim Whelan Memorial Award for his outstanding
contributions to New Jersey tourism. For over 20 years, Jim’s leadership and advocacy
have helped transform the Meadowlands into a thriving destination, driving billions in
economic impact and solidifying its place as a key hub for tourism and business.

2025 Legislators of the Year:
Assemblyman Bill Moen & Assemblyman Donald Guardian

NJTIA recognized Assemblyman Bill Moen and Assemblyman Donald Guardian as
2025 Legislators of the Year.  As Chair of the Assembly Tourism, Gaming, and the Arts
Committee, Assemblyman Moen has brought renewed visibility to New Jersey’s tourism
sector by taking the committee “on the road” — spotlighting key destinations like the
Battleship New Jersey, MetLife Stadium, and Monmouth Battlefield.
Assemblyman Don Guardian has long been a dedicated champion of tourism, both as a
legislator and as the former Mayor of Atlantic City, consistently advocating for the
industry’s vital role in New Jersey’s economy and cultural identity.

NJTIA recognized new Certified Tourism Industry Professionals on successfully
completing the Certified Tourism Industry Professional Program. Peggy Kelly, Director
of Tourism Marketing at Hudson County Culture & Heritage Affairs, and Melissa
DeFreest, Vice President of Tourism Somerset County Business Partnership. Their
dedication to advancing their expertise and leadership in the tourism sector is an
inspiration to colleagues and peers alike, and their achievements reflect their
commitment to driving innovation and excellence in New Jersey’s tourism industry.


The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA) is a non-profit trade organization
