About NJTIA
Who We Are
Our members include leading statewide organizations, many regional and local Chambers of Commerce, including our DMO Division comprising of State-funded and non-funded Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) and Convention and Visitor Authorities. NJTIA advocates for enhanced government support for Tourism in the State by educating our elected and appointed officials on the industry, its economic benefit to the State and the role that those employed by and for the industry add to the quality of life for every citizen of NJ. We have had a long term public-private relationship with the Division of Travel and Tourism and the Department of State. The Division of Travel and Tourism is a primary sponsor of NJTIA’s Annual Conference on Tourism. We are pleased to hold this partnership up as an example of a public-private partnership that truly works both financially as well as providing a beneficial service to the citizens of the State. On a daily basis, the organization dedicates itself to the cause of building tourism within NJ. This effort increases the attraction of NJ as a travel destination and as a result increases the amount of revenue the State collects through many revenue sources not the least of which is the Hotel Occupancy Tax, sales tax, employment and income taxes.

Mission Statement
Established in 1984, the New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA) is comprised of associations, businesses, industries, resorts, attractions, destination marketing organizations, transportation companies, cultural arts and historic organizations and advocates public policies that encourage the growth and development of New Jersey’s travel and tourism industry.
Founding and Early Years
The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association (NJTIA) was established to serve as a unified voice for the tourism industry in the state of New Jersey. Recognizing the immense economic and cultural impact of tourism, NJTIA was founded to advocate for policies, initiatives, and partnerships that support and grow the industry. The association brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including hospitality professionals, attractions, cultural institutions, and destination marketing organizations.
Expansion and Advocacy
As New Jersey’s tourism industry grew, so did NJTIA’s influence. In the 1980s and 1990s, the association became a powerful advocate in Trenton, pushing for increased funding for tourism marketing and infrastructure development. The organization worked closely with state agencies to ensure the industry’s needs were represented in policymaking.
NJTIA also played a key role in shaping major legislative initiatives, including policies related to tourism funding, hotel and lodging taxes, and investments in the state’s parks, beaches, and historical sites.
Adapting to Challenges
Throughout its history, NJTIA has shown resilience in addressing challenges that impacted the tourism industry. The association took a leadership role in disaster recovery efforts, such as after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, which devastated parts of New Jersey’s coastline. NJTIA advocated for relief funding and supported campaigns to restore New Jersey’s image as a premier destination.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NJTIA worked tirelessly to support its members by providing resources, hosting virtual events, and lobbying for relief programs to mitigate the effects of shutdowns on the tourism and hospitality industries.
NJTIA Today
Today, NJTIA remains at the forefront of tourism advocacy in New Jersey. The organization collaborates with government agencies, educational institutions, and private-sector partners to drive innovation in the tourism industry.
